Make Room
Making Room Requires Much
As we celebrated Father's Day, we took time to honour the fathers, grandfathers, spiritual fathers and father figures God has placed in our lives. But the message also turned our attention toward our Heavenly Father and an important question:
Have we truly made room for God in our lives?
This message begins Part 1 of our Make Room series, reminding us that making room for God is not passive. It requires intentionality, sacrifice, obedience and readiness.
Jesus teaches in Luke 12:35–48 that His followers should live like servants waiting faithfully for their master's return—ready, watchful and faithfully caring for what has been entrusted to them.
“From everyone who has been given much, much will be demanded; and from the one who has been entrusted with much, much more will be asked.” — Luke 12:48
Making room means putting God first
We are challenged to consider:
Have I made room for God in my time? Have I made room for Him in my decisions? Have I made room for His Word to challenge and change me? Have I made room for prayer and worship? Have I made room to serve others? Have I allowed God to correct my attitudes, ambitions and relationships?
We should not simply fit God into whatever space is left over. Instead, we are called to arrange our lives around Him.
Faithfulness and accountability
Jesus reminds us that what God entrusts to us comes with responsibility. Grace does not remove accountability. God cares about how we use our gifts, opportunities, relationships and responsibilities.
The more we have been entrusted with, the more responsibility we carry.
Being ready for Christ's return therefore means faithfully following Him today—not someday when it becomes convenient.
Make room today
The deeper question is not simply, “Am I ready for Jesus to return?”
It is:
“Have I made room for Jesus in my life today?”
Making room for God means allowing Him to lead us, transform us, correct us and use us. It means surrendering our plans, priorities, dreams and ambitions and asking that they align with His will.
This week, may our prayer be:
“Lord, I give You my life. Lead me, change me and show me what You want me to do. Help me make room for You every day.”
As we honour our earthly fathers, may we also honour our Heavenly Father—not only on Father's Day, but every day of our lives.
